[Q&A] Riccardo Giuliani (Project HOPE)

[19:01] <+RiccardoGiuliani> my name is Riccardo, I'm 36 years old and I'm a computer programmer
[19:02] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I'm from Fermo, Italy (a small village in the east coast)
[19:03] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and Project HOPE is my first RPG as author
[19:04] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I'm the writer and the rules guru (my friends call me that way, in order to leave me the worst part of the job)
[19:04] <~Dan> :)
[19:05] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Project HOPE is a superhero RPG set in World War Two
[19:06] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in which players will be superheroes sent in war, espionage or sabotage mission for Axis or Allies armies
[19:06] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (done)
[19:07] <~Dan> Thanks, Riccardo!
[19:07] <~Dan> Does anyone have any questions to start us off?
[19:07] <~Dan> Okay, then I shall pick up where we left off with Alessio...
[19:08] <~Dan> Can you please tell us about the basic system?
[19:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> ok
[19:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in Project HOPE you will use only d10
[19:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> every stat is expressed by two numbers, in the form X/Y
[19:09] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in which X is the number of dice to roll and Y is the threshod of success
[19:09] *** kanobe has quit IRC: Broken pipe
[19:10] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you have Stregth 3/7 you will throw 3 dice and will count only those who get 7 or more
[19:11] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if to lift a boulder the Editor (the Project HOPE Game Master) tells that you need 3 successes (SX), you will have to throw 3 dice and hope to obtain with all of them 7 or more
[19:12] *** Plastik has joined #rpgnet
[19:12] *** ChanServ sets mode +v Plastik
[19:12] <+RiccardoGiuliani> another thing to know is that you need only 10 dice
[19:13] *** Plastik has quit IRC: Disintegrated: Leaving
[19:13] *** GrimGent has quit IRC: Connection reset by peer
[19:13] *** kanobe has joined #rpgnet
[19:13] *** ChanServ sets mode +v kanobe
[19:13] <~Dan> (Howdy, Plastik, kanobe! Q&A re: Project HOPE in progress!)
[19:13] <~Dan> (#rpgnet2 open for general chat.)
[19:14] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you are Superman and your Strength is, let's say, 50/6, you only need to throw 10 dice, but you get 5 automatic successes (one for each decade)
[19:14] <+RiccardoGiuliani> these are the basic rules
[19:14] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (done)
[19:15] <~Dan> What are the attributes, and how do they relate to the skills?
[19:16] *** Serah has quit IRC: Disintegrated: I always forget what my quit message is. For obvious reasons. :<
[19:17] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE you have 8 Attributes: Strength, Sturdiness, Agility, Speed, Cunning, Smartness, Magic and Will (please, note that these terms are yet to be translated, here I'm using Google at my best :) )
[19:17] <~Dan> (You're doing fine. :) )
[19:18] *** ArsMysteriorum has joined #rpgnet
[19:18] *** ChanServ sets mode +v ArsMysteriorum
[19:20] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in addition to the Attributes, each character has a Psico-Attitude Profile, consisting of Attitudes (Personality, Wits and Conflict) and Knowledges (Occult, Scientific and Humanistic)
[19:21] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the combination of the psico-aptitude profile and Attributes will give you the basic skills
[19:22] *** BenRogers has joined #rpgnet
[19:22] *** ChanServ sets mode +v BenRogers
[19:22] <~Dan> (Howdy, ArsM, Ben!)
[19:22] <~Dan> Riccardo: Could you give an example?
[19:22] <+BenRogers> Heya, Dan! :)
[19:22] <+RiccardoGiuliani> for example, Combat depends on Conflict (aptitude-number of dice to throw) and Agility (attribute-threshold of success)
[19:23] <+BenRogers> Did I miss the premise of the game already?
[19:24] <+ArsMysteriorum> I'd like a recap as well.
[19:24] <~Dan> You did, but I'm sure Riccardo wouldn't mind giving you guys a quick recap. Oh, and while we're on the subject, perhaps you'd like to post the Kickstarter link?
[19:25] <+RiccardoGiuliani> sure I will!
[19:25] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (Link:
[19:26] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Project HOPE is a superheroes RPG set in World War Two
[19:27] <+BenRogers> Cool. What's the premise for powers? How do people become supers?
[19:27] <+ArsMysteriorum> Hmmm.
[19:27] <+RiccardoGiuliani> main inspiration comes from Marvel and DC comics, but with a mix of contamination, mainly due to the presence of magic
[19:28] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the official explanation for powers is that the Nazies built a mutation chamber called Wunderkammer, in which normal peoples get their powers
[19:28] <+ArsMysteriorum> I hope folks won't mind if I mention that the head of the programme I studied at was considered the seminal authority on Nazi occultism. I can suggest a few books if you wish for an authentic tinge to it.
[19:29] <+RiccardoGiuliani> but the fact is that supers existed long before the creation of the wunderkammer and nobody (apart the warlocks) knows why
[19:29] *** Plastik has joined #rpgnet
[19:29] *** ChanServ sets mode +v Plastik
[19:30] <~Dan> (wb, Plas!)
[19:30] <+ArsMysteriorum> Oh, crud. Sorry. Forgot about the rules already!
[19:30] <+Plastik> ty
[19:31] <~Dan> What do you mean, Ars? You didn't break any rules.
[19:31] <+BenRogers> Is it a simulation style game (attributes/skill attempting to simulate a realistic--although fantastic--environment)?
[19:31] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE the Warlocks (dark for the Nazies and white for the English) has a key role and players can play a Warlock, if they like. Or can play a Keeper, someone who possess a magical artefact that gives him powers
[19:31] <~Dan> (You can PM me if you have any concerns, Ars.)
[19:32] <+BenRogers> Based on some spelling differences, I'm presuming this is a British game?
[19:32] <~Dan> Italian, actually. :)
[19:32] <+RiccardoGiuliani> it is an Italian game
[19:32] <+ArsMysteriorum> (I talked over Mr. Giuliani)
[19:32] <+RiccardoGiuliani> :)
[19:33] <+BenRogers> Oh, very cool!
[19:33] <~Dan> (Ah. S'okay, Ars. I hadn't called a question pause.)
[19:33] <+RiccardoGiuliani> ther's not Mr. Giuliani, I'm Riccardo ;)
[19:33] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so, do you need also a recap for the basic rules?
[19:34] <+ArsMysteriorum> Hm. If you don't mind!
[19:34] <+BenRogers> Would be nice, yes.
[19:34] <+RiccardoGiuliani> not at all! but I think I'll do a bit of copy & paste, if you don't mind :)
[19:35] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in Project HOPE you will use only d10
[19:35] <+RiccardoGiuliani> every stat is expressed by two numbers, in the form X/Y
[19:35] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in which X is the number of dice to roll and Y is the threshod of success
[19:36] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you have Stregth 3/7 you will throw 3 dice and will count only those who get 7 or more
[19:36] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if to lift a boulder the Editor (the Project HOPE Game Master) tells that you need 3 successes (SX), you will have to throw 3 dice and hope to obtain with all of them 7 or more
[19:37] <+RiccardoGiuliani> you only need 10 dice
[19:37] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you are Superman and your Strength is, let's say, 50/6, you only need to throw 10 dice, but you get 5 automatic successes (one for each decade)
[19:37] <+BenRogers> Sounds like a pretty cool system, actually.  :)
[19:37] <+ArsMysteriorum> I do like the sound of it!
[19:38] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so if you are Superman, to lift the rock of the example you does not need to throw any dice: you already have more than the 3 SX needed
[19:39] <+ArsMysteriorum> Interesting.
[19:39] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE you have 8 Attributes: Strength, Sturdiness, Agility, Speed, Cunning, Smartness, Magic and Will (terms of the official translation could be different)
[19:40] <+ArsMysteriorum> You could easily justify a powerful, but limited character in this fashion.
[19:41] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the system is able to manage "normal" and "super" peoples and allow to a "batman" to fight against a "superman"
[19:41] <+RiccardoGiuliani> as it always happens in comics
[19:41] <+Gyr|Laptop> So do you get the same amount of auto-successes for a 20/9 stat as you do for, say, a 20/7 stat?
[19:41] *** GoldenH has quit IRC: Disintegrated: But the future refused to change...
[19:42] <+RiccardoGiuliani> no, there is a rule that gives you an additional bonus of +3 to add to the result of a dice, in order to try to obtain another success
[19:43] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you have 20/9 you can chose between the 9 highest results of your throw
[19:43] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if you have 20/7 you can choose between the 7 highest results
[19:43] <~Dan> Interesting.
[19:44] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I'm sorry I made a mistake...
[19:45] <+RiccardoGiuliani> To answer your question: if  you have 20/9 or 20/7 you have the same amount of automatic success (2 SX, one for each decade)
[19:46] <+RiccardoGiuliani> but with 20/7 you will obtain more easily other success from your throw, because the threshold is lower
[19:46] <+ArsMysteriorum> K. I wanna play it.
[19:47] <+RiccardoGiuliani> please forget about the 9 or 7 highest results (I misunderstood your question!)
[19:47] <~Dan> You mentioned Batman vs. Superman. Can "normal" characters have seemingly "superhuman" levels of skill?
[19:48] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE you will have 6 base classes of heroes and one of them, the Adventurers, are "normal" humans without powers, but only training and weapons for fight supers
[19:49] <+ArsMysteriorum> Ah, so it's implied that there are characters skilled in taking out super-powered characters.
[19:49] *** Geek2theRight has joined #rpgnet
[19:49] *** ChanServ sets mode +v Geek2theRight
[19:49] <~Dan> (Howdy, G2tR!)
[19:49] <+RiccardoGiuliani> because the ability to hit depends mainly on training, also normal people could have a word in fighting
[19:50] <~Dan> On a related note, does degree of success affect damage in combat?
[19:51] <~Dan> In other words, could a "Batman" type do a lot of damage through sheer skill?
[19:51] <+RiccardoGiuliani> no: usually damage depends on weapons or powers used, but the degrees of success may allow you to choose the location in which to strike
[19:52] <~Dan> Does hitting in key locations do more damage, then? Like, a blow to the head?
[19:52] <+RiccardoGiuliani> a batman type could easily beat a superboy type, with a gun or a grenade
[19:52] <+RiccardoGiuliani> not exactly: if you hit an arm or a leg your enemy will have some penalties, but if you hit head or body, your enemy die!
[19:53] <+ArsMysteriorum> Ah, so such adventurer characters will be equipped with weaponry capable of damaging supers, in most cases?
[19:54] <+RiccardoGiuliani> you notice that is the "Dawn of Superheroes", so everything is a bit unstable (powers, weapons and all strange stuff), so you won't probably be able to create a real "Superman" Character
[19:54] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and Invulnerability means "hard to kill but not impossible"
[19:55] <+ArsMysteriorum> Like the Tick...
[19:55] <+RiccardoGiuliani> as I told you before, a good grenade can kill almost anyone
[19:55] <+ArsMysteriorum> Hehe. I like that philosophy
[19:55] <~Dan> Is it the case that there are no Superman-level characters in the setting, or is it that the PCs just can't be Superman-level?
[19:56] <+RiccardoGiuliani> when the war will end and the SIlver Age of Project HOPE will start, then also the powers will be more "cosmic""
[19:56] <+ArsMysteriorum> Ah, a different take of the Abomination progression.
[19:56] <+ArsMysteriorum> I dig it.
[19:57] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in the setting you will find Brunild, the Valkyre, a very strong character, the closest thing we have to a superman
[19:57] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and you should prey not to meet her...
[19:57] <~Dan> How strong is she?
[19:58] <+ArsMysteriorum> Not Goku level strength...
[19:58] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if I remember well, about 40/5...
[19:58] *** Le_Squide is now known as le_Showar
[19:58] <~Dan> Is that strong enough to throw a tank, for example?
[19:58] *** Logomachist has quit IRC: Ping timeout
[19:59] <+RiccardoGiuliani> absolutely yes!
[19:59] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (her favourite kind of bullets)
[19:59] <~Dan> Very nice.
[19:59] <+ArsMysteriorum> Feh.
[19:59] <+RiccardoGiuliani> a normal men usually have 2/9
[19:59] <+ArsMysteriorum> She's dual-wielding tanks! RUNNNN
[20:00] <~Dan> :)
[20:00] <+RiccardoGiuliani> :D
[20:00] <~Dan> So let's talk about powers for a bit.
[20:00] <+RiccardoGiuliani> ok
[20:00] <+RiccardoGiuliani> what about?
[20:00] <~Dan> I'm not sure how well this question will translate, so bear with me, Riccardo...
[20:00] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I'll try very hard
[20:01] <~Dan> Generally speaking, superhero RPGs tend to handle powers in two different ways:
[20:01] <~Dan> "Effects-based", which means that you pick whatever special effects make up the power you're trying to simulate...
[20:01] <~Dan> ...and "cafeteria style", which means that you have a list of ready powers from which to choose.
[20:02] <~Dan> Does Project HOPE match either of those?
[20:02] <+RiccardoGiuliani> as I understand it, should be a "cafeteria style"
[20:02] <+ArsMysteriorum> That's a friggin' good question and.
[20:03] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in projectHOPE you will find a list of more than a hunderd powers, heac with his description
[20:03] <+ArsMysteriorum> Ah, so Super Strength, Noodly Appendage, Booger-Producing Hair, etc.
[20:03] * ~Dan chuckles
[20:03] <+RiccardoGiuliani> for each power you can raise the number of dice or lower the threshold of success
[20:04] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (X/Y, remember?)
[20:04] * ~Dan nods
[20:04] <~Dan> Now, given that you offer a list of powers, how does magic work?
[20:04] <+RiccardoGiuliani> there are also bonus powers that does not need a threshold value
[20:04] <+RiccardoGiuliani> do you like spoilers?
[20:05] <+ArsMysteriorum> NO
[20:05] <+RiccardoGiuliani> :D
[20:05] <~Dan> Okay, I can work with this. :)
[20:05] <~Dan> Riccardo, please join #rpgnet-spoilers. :)
[20:05] <+ArsMysteriorum> How about mechanically?
[20:06] <+RiccardoGiuliani> ok, in Project HOPE you will find 10 different mystical orders, each one with is library of spells
[20:06] <+ArsMysteriorum> 10 is significant?
[20:07] <+ArsMysteriorum> Like one for each sefira, etc.
[20:07] <+RiccardoGiuliani> not particularly: there are ten orders so, there are ten books of magic
[20:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> each mage, independently from his order, can cast spells from each book, but he can do better from the book of his own order
[20:09] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so a mage can do a lot more thing than a superhero...
[20:10] <~Dan> How does a spell differ from a superpower?
[20:10] <+ArsMysteriorum> AD&Dish approach?
[20:10] <+ArsMysteriorum> As it ought be ;)
[20:10] <+ArsMysteriorum> Dr Strange is my superhero of choice.
[20:10] <+ArsMysteriorum> One's magic. Duh. ;)
[20:11] <+ArsMysteriorum> I love how the Juggernaut got all miffed if you called him a mutant.
[20:11] <+RiccardoGiuliani> because a superpower is a stat with X/Y level, while a spell is a way to use the whichcraft ability of the mage
[20:11] <+ArsMysteriorum> "My power's are *MAGICAL*!"
[20:11] <~Dan> Well, I'm assuming there are some complications to using magic as opposed to using a superpower. Incantations and so forth.
[20:12] <+ArsMysteriorum> Right, I was jesting.
[20:12] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so a mage does not need to pay experience points to raise a specific spell, but need to pay to henance his witchcraft ability
[20:12] <+ArsMysteriorum> Interesting.
[20:12] *** WonderRat has joined #rpgnet
[20:12] *** ChanServ sets mode +v WonderRat
[20:12] <+RiccardoGiuliani> absolutely: raise the witchcraft is A LOT MORE expensive than raise a power
[20:13] <~Dan> (Howdy, Wondy!)
[20:13] <+ArsMysteriorum> Superheroes get more of a supe rpowerful single power.
[20:13] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and a mage cannot use spells on himself (or he can do with penalties)
[20:13] <+ArsMysteriorum> Mages get a range.
[20:13] <~Dan> So, do mages have to use gestures and incantations?
[20:13] <+RiccardoGiuliani> mages knows what supers does not...
[20:14] <~Dan> (You can tell me in #rpgnet-spoilers, Riccardo. :) )
[20:14] <+ArsMysteriorum> Ah, just out with it
[20:14] <+ArsMysteriorum> s'ok
[20:14] <+RiccardoGiuliani> rules does not require that. but mages can do al kind of stuff mages usually do (enchant objects, make artefact, write their personal book of spells and so on)
[20:14] <~Dan> Okay, what's the spoiler, Riccardo? :)
[20:15] <+WonderRat> (Howdy)
[20:15] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I think I already written in the rpgnet-spoilers...
[20:16] <~Dan> Nope, you're not in there... Type "/join #rpgnet-spoilers"

[20:23] <~Dan> Sure!

[20:24] <+RiccardoGiuliani> ok!
[20:24] <~Dan> Then we can come back to the classes, since ArsM wasn't here for that.
[20:25] <+RiccardoGiuliani> in 1939, when the Blitzkrieg begins, Germany conquest Poland in 3 days because of the Arischer Sturm (Aryan Storm), the first super team in Project HOPE world
[20:27] <+RiccardoGiuliani> its leader is Todes Maske (Death Mask), a man wearing a Crystal Skull that gives him the power to fly, an innatural strength and the power to throw flames
[20:28] <+RiccardoGiuliani> then there is Brunild the most powerful superheroine in Project HOPE: beautiful, extremely strong, capable to fly, invulnerable and insensible to pain
[20:29] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Fenrir is the "wolfman" of the Arischer Sturm: in battle his frenzy prevent him recognizing enemy from friends and he eats them all
[20:30] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Zerstorer (Destroyer) is more a machine than a men: his mutilated body has been placed in an armored tank
[20:31] <+ArsMysteriorum> For the Empire!
[20:32] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and last, Ricthofen: he claim to be the son of Red Baron Manfred Von Richtofen and like his father fly on the battlefield wreaking havoc
[20:32] <~Dan> Cool. :)
[20:32] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the first and most importan US team, instead, is The Freedom Flags
[20:33] <+RiccardoGiuliani> The Flag is the leader: is an Adventurer armed with the Liberty Staff, a stick capable to shoot beams
[20:34] <+RiccardoGiuliani> MindEye is the Psichic of the team, beautiful and gentle
[20:34] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Bald Eagle can fly and his claws can pierce the steel
[20:35] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Hammer is a Machine Man and his hammers can crush a car!
[20:36] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and last: John Doe. No one knows his real identity. No more. Not even himself. his powers of shapeshifting is so strong that he cannot stop it
[20:37] <+RiccardoGiuliani> (done)

[20:40] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Then you find Lord Ian Aloisius Wylde, an immortal alive about since 1700

[20:41] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Rose Katleen Dawson has the power of Force Field that make her fly and run like a bullet against her enemies

[20:46] <~Dan> (wb, Omega!)
[20:48] <~Dan> We discussed this a bit before, but are there any supernatural entities involved in the setting beyond the mages and supers?
[20:48] <~Dan> Demons, for example?
[20:51] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE we explain all kind of religious or mithyc entities as Prodigies, so no, you won't find demons. But the Council of Thirteen, the original evil Warloks, are called Demons, and with the advance of history and the end of the war, we will reveal the presence of other forces plotting in shadows (this is another spoiler...)

[20:59] <~Dan> (Howdy, Kzar!)
[20:59] <+RiccardoGiuliani> The Second Book is Sekai Dai Ichi, in which we speak about the Pacific War, U.S., Japan and China setting), with two more classes
[21:01] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Armored Men (Kido Senshi, giant robots like Gundam, for the Japanese and Steel Men, mechanical exoskeletons for the Americans, something like Iron Man)
[21:02] <+RiccardoGiuliani> and Martial Warriors (Ninja and Samurai fort the Jap and Kung Fu styles for the Chinese)
[21:02] <+RiccardoGiuliani> The Third Book is Festung Europa, in which we speak a lot more of German, Russia and the Project HOPE main characters.
[21:03] <+RiccardoGiuliani> There are 2 more classes: Abomination (hybrids between Prodigies and Machine Men) and Succubus (Dark Warlocks servants)
[21:04] <+RiccardoGiuliani> The Fourth Book is Mare Nostrum, in which we speak more of England, Italy, Africa and Mediterranean Sea.
[21:06] <+RiccardoGiuliani> Two classess here: Technomancer (magicians who use technology to hunt dark wizards) and Signifer (Vatican super agents who get their powers from an... Angel that may not be an angel!)
[21:06] <~Dan> Nice. :)
[21:07] <+RiccardoGiuliani> And then there is the last book, Gotterdammerung, in which there are no classes, but we speak about the and of war in Europe. Soon the Second Act (April 2013) will tell how the war end in Asia...
[21:07] <+ArsMysteriorum> Dang
[21:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> So, peoples, that's all... is there anything more you want to know?
[21:08] <+RiccardoGiuliani> about Project HOPE or his founders?
[21:09] <~Dan> Hmmm... Do you have time to explain how combat works?
[21:09] <+RiccardoGiuliani> I'll try ;)
[21:10] <~Dan> If you need to get to bed, I understand completely. :)
[21:10] <+RiccardoGiuliani> In Project HOPE we tried recreate the comic books atmosphere
[21:11] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so, any round is called page and any action is called cartoon (I don't know if this is the exact english term...)
[21:11] <+RiccardoGiuliani> When a combat starts, all characters test their Speed Attribute
[21:12] <+RiccardoGiuliani> The highest score has the first cartoon
[21:12] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the others will follow
[21:12] <~Dan> (Probably "frame", re: cartoon.)
[21:12] <~Dan> (If you mean one individual square on a comicbook page.)
[21:13] <+Omega> I was guessing "panel"
[21:13] <~Dan> (Oh, that may be it.)
[21:13] <+RiccardoGiuliani> yes it could be... google translator tricked me...
[21:13] <+RiccardoGiuliani> :D
[21:14] <+RiccardoGiuliani> so if you want to attack you have to pay a "frame" (or "panel") and you have to test your Combat Ability
[21:15] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if the defender can pay a "frame" he can try to avoid the attack by parrying, dodging or using some of his Heroic Abilities (powers, spells, ect)
[21:15] <~Dan> (Looks like Omega and I were both right, but him moreso than me. A "panel" is an individual frame (or single drawing) on a comicbook page.)
[21:17] <+RiccardoGiuliani> if attacker has more Successes than defender, he strikes his enemy (the Combat test tells also which location to hit)
[21:18] <+RiccardoGiuliani> then he have to throw dice for the damage (that depends on the weapon or Heroic Ability, such as powers or spells he used to strike)
[21:20] <+RiccardoGiuliani> when he has been hit, the defender can try to absorb the damage using his Sturdiness and eventually protections on the location
[21:21] <+RiccardoGiuliani> the ability of Combat does not depends on powers or other Heroic Abilities and can be encreased without limits, so yes, an Adventurer can be "super" in striking!

[20:18] <RiccardoGiuliani> so, in Project HOPE ages ago normal people tried to understand why supers had their powers. they studied and found the magic
[20:19] <@Dan> Ah, there you are. :)
[20:19] <RiccardoGiuliani> magic and powers are the same, in base, but mages knows exactely HOW activate this powers, while Prodigies (the supers in Project HOPE) don't, so the can use only a few powers
[20:19] <RiccardoGiuliani> the mages, with some penalties, can use ALL kind of powers
[20:20] <RiccardoGiuliani> so that's the spoiler :)
[20:21] <@Dan> Ah. What I suspected, actually. :)
[20:21] <@Dan> Okay, back to the main chat! :)
